Why You Should Rely on Optical Zoom

June 24, 2008

If there’s one tip you can benefit from as a digital camera user, it’s to stay away from the digital zoom on your camera, and use the optical zoom instead.

This may seem strange, since the digital zoom multiplies your zooming capabilities by several times what the optical zoom offers, but if quality is important to you, you really shouldn’t rely on digital zoom.

Digital zoom isn’t a true representation of the scene you’re shooting, and will often result in a more cloudy or blurry picture.

With most digital cameras, the megapixel quality is high enough that you can simply zoom in to your optical zoom’s limit, and then crop and “blow up” the picture later. You’ll likely be able to do so without the sacrifice in quality that your pictures would suffer from when using digital zoom!

Take heed to his advice and you’ll take better close-up pictures in no time!

Editing Your Digital Photos

June 22, 2008

Among the best things about taking photographs with a digital camera is that they can be easily edited. Editing your digital photos can take care of nasty imperfections or even revamp a photograph completely! Here are some common and easy fixes to problems that may arise in your pictures.

Every picture and photograph editor has some kind of red-eye eliminator. However, some work better than others. Red-eye has plagued eyes since the first days of color photography, so if your red-eye reducing function isn’t doing the job, get a free trial of a different photo editing program!

Cropping pictures is an easy way to get a better overall photograph. You can crop out excess background or even unwanted ex-boyfriends! Doing so is as simple as dragging a box around what you want to keep, and usually just finding the crop option. If it’s harder than that, look into different software as well.

Finally, resizing pictures is important, especially if you post them on the internet or your website. Many times, pictures taken with a digital camera end up being way too big, and they take a lot of space. Resizing them is an easy way to fix this problem, and they’ll take up less space on your computer, too!

Tips for Printing Digital Pictures at Home

June 21, 2008

With a digital camera, you have a lot of options once you decide you want your digital photos to become a tangible part of your reality. You can print them off at a store for a pretty fair price, or, if you like, you can print them off at home for even more convenience.

If you do decide to print your pictures at home, don’t skimp on buying a good printer. Buying expensive paper and keeping your ink levels high won’t help you at all if you have a cheap printer! Affordable printers aren’t always poor quality, but you will want to shop carefully and find a good combination of quality and price.

Also, make sure you have your settings correct. Many printers offer a wide range of settings that, if not aligned correctly, can lead to poor picture printing. Make sure you’re printing your pictures in high quality!

Taking Better Pictures with Your Digital Camera

June 20, 2008

If you’re having problems getting the results you want out of your digital camera, chances are that the fix is a simple one. Most problems with pictures taken with digital cameras can be solved quite easily.

For instance, you may want to make sure to turn the auto-flash on, if you’re indoors but there is plenty of natural light. Even with the presence of light, sometimes the auto-flash will kick in, giving your pictures a washed out look, and making the subjects of those pictures look frightfully pale.

Also, experiment with the presets. Most digital cameras have easy to access presets that allow you to take pictures that are specifically suited to certain conditions, like very sunny outdoor pictures, action pictures, or others. Take a glance at your digital camera’s manual for more information.

Above all, keep trying new things. Change the settings and try again! And above all, consult your manual. That’s what it’s there for!

No More Bad Pictures

June 19, 2008

One of the worst feelings you can have after a vacation is getting your pictures back and having your excitement turn to disappointment, as you see that your photo of the Grand Canyon or your picture with your Uncle Bob from Florida didn’t turn out. Sure, you can complain and maybe you won’t pay for the pictures, but that doesn’t replace the photos that didn’t turn out!

With a digital camera, you don’t have to worry about such disappointments. As soon as you take the picture, you can see the result, so if Uncle Bob blinked or there was a glare in your picture of the Grand Canyon, you can simply take the picture again (and again) until you’re happy with it!

Unfortunately, life is full of moments that can’t be recreated. For this reason, it’s important to invest in a digital camera. That way, you’ll never find out that your only record of an irreplaceable moment “didn’t turn out”.

Storing Photographs Has Never Been Easier

June 18, 2008

Much has been made of what digital cameras have done to make photo-taking itself easier, but what about photo storage? Most people don’t think of the convenience that digital photography has given to photo hoarders, family historians, and just plain everyday people.

One of the best aspects of using a digital camera is that your photos are easily stored on a memory stick, or even the camera’s internal memory. Once you transfer your photos to your computer, you can easily place them in folders, keeping them organized and ready for viewing, sharing, or printing in the future.

Now, contrast this to what it used to mean to have thousands of photos: dozens of shoeboxes of developed photos, which deteriorate over time, or an equal number of bulky photo albums, none of which seems to have the photo you’re looking for! Plus, photo albums didn’t always preserve pictures well, either.

With digital photography, storing and preserving pictures has never been easier. Take advantage and buy a digital camera and not only will your pictures look better than ever, but you’ll also have an easier time keeping track of them!

Still Don’t Think You Need a Digital Camera?

June 17, 2008

It’s hard to believe, but there are still folks out there using (gasp!) traditional, film-based cameras. While there are many reasons why some people prefer film-based cameras, let’s present the argument for a switch to their digital counterpart.

First, you can take hundreds or even thousands of pictures on a single memory card! Memory cards have more space and are more affordable than ever, and this is a lot more convenient than having boxes and boxes of photographs at home!

Also, you can instantly see the pictures you take. This means no more disappointment when you get your film developed, only to find out that most of your pictures didn’t turn out well.

Oh, and speaking of developing film, forget about that once you buy a digital camera! You’ll save tons of money and still be able to print out your best shots!

As you can see, the reasons to buy a digital camera are many, and with digital cameras priced lower than ever, what are you waiting for?

Shopping for Digital Cameras: Price vs. Features

June 16, 2008

Digital cameras used to be a ground-breaking, but very expensive, way to save your memories permanently. However, now, digital cameras are better and more affordable than ever. Still, you’ll want to make sure that if you have a limited amount to spend, you get the best value for your money.

First, don’t overpay for quality you don’t really need. It’s great to have a 12.1 megapixel camera, but you don’t really need it for day-to-day photography, when 8 megapixels is already great quality.

Also, don’t be fooled by gaudy features that are given trendy names by manufacturers. Many features, such as auto face focus or a variety of presets, are standard among nearly all digital cameras.

Finally, make sure to shop at a variety of stores! Check online if you like buying through the internet, and if not, be prepared to do some legwork to get the best deal! Put a little time in, and you’ll find a great deal for sure.

Say Goodbye to Photo Developing Fees!

June 15, 2008

If you still haven’t jumped into the world of digital photography, you’re likely paying a lot of money for photo developing fees, even if you are getting a good deal. Not only that, but there’s nothing to protect you from paying several dollars just to get some prints that didn’t even turn out like you wanted them to! If you’ve had this happen, consider getting a digital camera.

Digital cameras allow you to see the pictures you take immediately after you take them. If you don’t like how they turned out, you merely erase them and move on!

Not only that, you’ll know right away that you got great pictures, and when you do want to develop them, you can print just the ones that you want, instead of paying for a bunch that end up disappointing you.

With more types of digital cameras available than ever, and at better prices than ever, there’s simply no reason that you should be waiting around in the store for your pictures to develop! Get a digital camera and start enjoying photography as it was meant to be!

Printing The Pictures You Take With Your Digital Camera

June 14, 2008

Having pictures on your computer is great and all, and being able to e-mail them is fun. However, there comes a time when you want to actually print your photographs. When that time comes, follow these guidelines.

Pay attention to the type of paper you use. The quality of your paper (as well as the printer itself) can have a huge impact on how your paper looks.

Play around with printer settings if you need to. Don’t be bashful, you’re here to learn, right? If something doesn’t fit your liking, change the printer settings!

Print your pictures at a store, if necessary. Many places have photo developing kiosks where you can bring in your memory card and print the pictures you want, leaving the work to them. This is usually pretty affordable and requires no investment in a printer, ink cartridge, and paper from you.

Best of luck and make sure to only print the good ones!
